Student Reflection by Surkhab Shaikh

Putting on the perfect dress, I rushed from one mirror to another, making sure I looked presentable in all lightings. I applied just the right amount of mascara, and brushed my hair for what my mother would say was the 38th time.  Arriving at the captivating Gusman Theatre in Downtown Miami is awe-inspiring, but arriving at the Gusman Theatre for the Honors College Induction Ceremony was awe-inspiring and terrifying. Walking up the lavish halls of the theatre, I saw each stunning detail which served as a reminder for what was about to come. The induction ceremony represents the first-year Honors College students’ duties to emblematize Miami Dade College for the brilliant institution it is for the next two years and beyond.  With this ordination, the students realize the expectations everyone has for us—from our professors to Dr. Eduardo Padron, from our parents to our fellow classmates. During the ceremony, we were reminded of the hope invested in us and the astronomical accomplishments of other Honors College students. These expectations cannot and will not be seen as a burden, but instead as beliefs in our abilities and determination. At the end of the night, it did not matter if my hair looked flawless or that I was in a prestigious theater with incredibly relevant figures from Miami Dade College; what mattered was that I walked out of the ceremony with a sense of significance, and the awareness that my efforts will be acknowledged in this institution.

Student Reflection by Arnelle Carbon

A night to remember.
A grandeur theatre to absorb visually.
The night of all nights to a Miami-Dade College Honors College student.
The Honors College Induction Ceremony.
The glorious night glistened with amazing performances, joyous memories, inspiring words of wisdom, and of course, the prestige of all of the Honors College students.
The evening truly made taking on the duties of an honor student worth it if it had not deemed itself so already.
